COUNSELOR IN TRAINING

Leaders of tomorrow are teens today. YMCA Camp Lincoln gives young people the opportunity and responsibility to develop leadership qualities in a supportive environment through the counselor-in-training (CIT) programs. These programs are highly desired and competitive.

How does it work?

The typical progression for CIT's at Camp Lincoln:

  1. At age 14, campers can choose to participate in the Jr CIT program. Register online just like any other camper, and pay for this 4-week program. Campers must be 14 years old.

  2. At age 15, campers apply to be selected for the 8-week Sr CIT program. There is no fee for this program.

  3. At age 16, previous CIT participants are eligible to apply for summer employment as a camp counselor.

JUNIOR COUNSELOR IN TRAINING (Jr CIT)

4-week session

June 23-July 18, 2025 or

July 21-August 15, 2025

$1,150

This program is for 14 year olds only. Junior CIT participants learn team building, communication skills and the confidence they need to work with peers and with children. Junior CITs are integrated into the camp program and get hands-on experience. They work in the cabins, lead activities and have a chance to learn from experienced staff. Junior CITs must commit to a four-week session, and may only participate in one session of Jr CIT. Once a camper has partipcated in the Jr CIT program, they may not return to camp as a traditional or specialty camper.

SENIOR COUNSELOR IN TRAINING (Sr CIT)

The Senior CIT program prepares teens with development in character, life skills and strong leadership values. Senior CITs apply their training in program areas and leadership tasks throughout camp. They learn to push themselves as they gain confidence, independence, leadership, and a positive outlook. It’s strongly recommended that applicants complete the Junior CIT program before completing the application for this highly competitive program. Senior CITs must commit to an eight-week session.
