Volunteering at the YMCA
"Volunteers are not paid - not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless."
You can impact our community. At the YMCA, your time and talent go a long way. Every hour you spend as a YMCA volunteer translates into the caring attention a child or teen needs to grow up healthy and resilient. It translates into support for families so they can be successful and strong, as well as into healthier lives for people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and incomes. This creates a safer, more viable community that is a good place to live and work.
YMCAs are one of the nation's leading volunteer organizations. While not every YMCA has a building, every YMCA has volunteers. All 2,663 YMCAs are volunteer-founded, volunteer-based, and volunteer-led. Local volunteers establish YMCAs and local volunteers run YMCAs, ensuring that YMCAs are meeting the unique needs of our communities.
Volunteers at the Southern District YMCA/Camp Lincoln make a difference. Our YMCA volunteers contribute thousands of hours helping the Southern District YMCA/Camp Lincoln build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities every year. Our volunteers teach exercise classes for children in our School's Out Programs, they work with hundreds of summer day campers as counselors-in-training, they help us improve our grounds to start a new season and later help prepare for winter when the last campfire burns out. Our volunteers guide and advise YMCA staff in our mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy mind, body, and spirit for all. We are grateful for all our amazing volunteers who make a difference in the lives of children and families every day.
