Y-Arts Classes are designed to develop and nurture the artistic ability in every child, teen and adult so they may have a lifetime of pleasure in the arts.

Pre-School & Kindergarten

Session 3 (January 9 - February 17)

$72 each class per session; clay class add $15 materials fee.

Clay Nature Prints - In this exciting class, kids will collect and press leaves, shells, sticks, and other natural objects into clay. After glazing and firing, children will use string to hang their wall plaques.

Smudge, Smear and Erase - Explore pastels and charcoals in this hands on drawing class. Blend, smear smudge and erase to mix color and create beautiful, soft drawings.

Monday

Easel painting -Stand up if you like to paint! In our easel class, children will explore many different ways to hold their brush to create beautiful strokes of color. Children will learn to paint from life and experiment with changes in light and shadows. (No Class January 16)

Wednesday

Drawing Portraiture - In this class, children will decode the formula of the human body and discover the hidden proportions that make up a portrait. Using a variety of portraiture techniques, children will express their moods and feelings through illustrations of their own portraits. By the end of the session, children will have created their own self-likeness masterpiece.

Thursday

Open Studio - This is just a fun time to creatively explore, whether it be free drawing, bookmaking, collage or mask making, you name it! We call these classes 'Open Studio', for they are a little bit of everything! 'Open' to whatever the children are in the mood to try!

Friday

Clay Play - Squeeze, pitch, and throw clay! This class will introduce the basic concepts of pottery making with hand building and wheel techniques. Students will learn about medium of clay and process of making, firing, and glazing pottery.

***All Classes will meet 6 times per session; makeups will be offered for classes cancelled due to school holidays***

Teens

Session 3 (January 9 - February 17)

Clay Wheel Throwing - Learn the art of wheel throwing in this basic class for those with a flair for functional pieces! Go over the basic techniques in wheel throwing and glazing. Students may repeat this class as only practice makes perfect and our instructor will work with each student at their individual skill level.

Fashion Design - Take your fashion designs and make them reality. Throughout this class we will experiment building textiles using a batik fabric dying technique. We will also explore the human body and its proportions as we study pattern making to create small-scale garments.

Adults

Session 3 (January 9 - February 17)

Clay Tile Making - Appropriate for beginners as well as those of you who have done some tile-making before, this is a class for those who appreciate handmade tile. We will present a number of techniques for forming, texturing, and carving fabulous tiles from wet clay, and will experiment with glazing and finishing options.

Parent’s Night Out

You have worked hard all week.  Leave the kids with us and treat yourself to a night out. We will not tell the kids... they will think it is the Kid’s Night Out!  We offer Parent Night’s Out from 6 - 9pm on the third Friday of every month. Enjoy a grown up evening while professional Y Staff treat your kids to an evening of fun. Kids play games, meet new friends, work on art projects,  share hobbies and more. Pizza, snack & drinks will be served.

$20 per child, $15 per additional siblings.

Open Studio

Open Studio is offered the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month from 10-12pm. Family Rate $15
