Youth & Government

Southern District YMCA supports the Youth & Government program in local high schools. Students participate in a mock legislative session at the state house in Concord for two weekends. In preparation, each school elects officials, discusses current state issues, and prepares bills to present and debate.

The goal of the Youth & Government program is to encourage young men and women to become better citizens through knowledge and active involvement in determining the future of our democracy. Under the guidance of volunteer advisors recruited by the YMCA, students debate bills, learn the democratic process and practice parliamentary procedure, press relations and lobbying techniques.

High schools currently sending student delegations to YMCA Youth & Government are Exeter, Newmarket, Sanborn and Timberlane. To develop a Youth and Government delegation, contact Kimberly at Kimberly@sdymca.org or 642-3361.
